COVID-19 UPDATE: April 13

On April 13, Alberta Health Services confirmed 1,081 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 163,119.

Three people passed away, which means 2,021 Albertans have now died from COVID-19.

402 people are currently in hospital due to COVID.

In the North Zone, there are 16,020 cases of COVID-19 and 150 people have passed away.

There are currently 2,005 active cases in our zone with 59 in Mackenzie County, 46 Big Lakes County, 23 in the MD of Peace and the MD of Greenview, 13 in the MD of Fairview, nine in the MD of Smoky River, seven in Northern Sunrise County ,six in Clear Hills County and the MD of Spirit River, while all other jurisdictions in our area have four or less active cases.

AHS is reporting that 146,011 people have recovered from the virus.

This means that there are currently 15,087 active cases across Alberta.

Outbreaks have been declared at the following facilities:

  • Michels Canada, Valleyview
  • Peace River Correctional Centre
  • RCC Simonette Lodge, Valleyview
  • St. Theresa General Hospital, Fort Vermilion

To help slow spread or ease fear of catching COVID-19, the government recommends washing your hands for at least 20 seconds, and to avoid touching the face.

The Government of Alberta also made masks mandatory indoors.
