If you report a crime online, it will be taken every bit as seriously as one that is called in, or reported in person.

However, according to Constable Chantelle Kelly tells the Trending 55 Newsroom that a less-serious crime online can help local RCMP detachments gather valuable information.

These reports assist us in crime analysis, aids us in establishing trends and patterns, and ultimately leads our investigators to the chronic offenders,” she says.

“It also assists us in making decisions about how and where to deploy resources.”

Kelly also stresses that a crime reported online will be taken just as seriously as others.

“All crime is important to report, and we take it seriously,” explains Kelly, who also insists that no crime is too small to report.

The Mounties say the goal is to streamline operations so that frontline officers can spend more time patrolling communities.

Anyone who is looking to report a crime online can do so here
