Northern Sunrise County has passed their 2020 budget and tax rate bylaw.

The County has maintained the same mill rate for their residential, farmland and industrial properties for another year.

With the economic downturn having an effect on the region, Reeve Carolyn Kolebaba says they are offering the option of some payment discounts and deferrals to their ratepayers.

“We are going to give a 5% reduction to those who pay their taxes before the June deadline. Industry can also do that as well or there’s another option for the non-residential. We will help them as well through deferrals.”

Kolebaba says with the region being affected by the economic downturn, they want to help support those businesses who’ve been affected.

“Industry and businesses alike are hurting right now and we understand that and we’re looking at all kinds of ways to support them through this. If we don’t support them, we won’t have them at the end. Our goal is to help them in any way we can to ensure that they’re fully active when we get back to normal.”

The budget has projected revenues of $33,296,846, operating expenditures of $20,985,243 and capital acquisitions expenditures of $11,693,155.
