Councillors tour and get update on Peace Regional Rec Centre

Councillors from neighboring municipalities were taken on a tour of the construction site of the Peace Regional Recreation Centre. The tour was hosted by the Town of Peace River on Wednesday and involved councillors from Northern Sunrise County, County of Northern Lights and MD of Peace being shown around by the lead architect and construction managers of the project.

The Town says as fall wraps up, construction on the PRRC will be running on schedule and with no delays. Recently, crews were busy focusing on concrete, installing floor bases and working on the second floor.

The floor slabs are now 80 percent complete. Crews have also completed roofing on the non-pre-engineered areas, and the ice plant rooms are coming together as well. The new ice plant has arrived and has been placed in its room along with its cooling tower. Over the next few months air handling units will also be installed.

Thanks to the nice weather, crews have been able to begin work on the project’s curbs, gutters and sidewalks. Later this fall, work will be done on the framing of the PRRC’s interior walls. Custom glass is being cut for the windows and doors. The entire building is expected to be completely enclosed in about six weeks.

The Town has set up a page for those who would like to donate to the project. Those who wish to donate can find more information here.
