According to the Town of Peace River, crews have been working around the clock to unclog a major sewer main along River Road, between Fountain Tire and Athabasca Hall.
The sewage line is frozen which crew workers have been working to thaw. They have been able to sift through the sewage line about 40 feet a day.
As crews continue to sift through the sewage they are finding debris that isn’t normally found in such circumstances (see attached image).
An example is a pile of shredded work rags that has contributed to the blockage.
The town is advising residents that some noise may be heard into the evening and to be patient during this time.
The work is important to be completed in order to prevent the sewage from entering into people’s homes.
The town is also gently reminding residents that bodily waste and TP should only be items that are flushed down domestic toilets and to save all other materials for their appropriate waste outlets as this greatly contributes to blocked sewer lines.
