Beaverlodge RCMP will soon operate as a stand-alone detachment.
As of December 1, 2017, it will be separated from the administration of the Grande Prairie RCMP Detachment.
The Beaverlodge detachment’s been under the GP detachment’s purview since 2007. But in response to a request from the Town of Beaverlodge, as well as increasing operational and administrative demands from Grande Prairie, the RCMP’s Western Alberta District determined that integration was no longer relevant.
Mounties say in a press release that Beaverlodge RCMP can run effectively and administer their duties all on their own. The head of the Beaverlodge detachment will now be able to focus solely on policing issues and services within their area.
RCMP also stress that the change is administrative only, and will not impact service delivery and public safety. Both detachments will continue working collaboratively on policing issues where appropriate.
The district says the change provides the Beaverlodge area with a commander who understands all the daily issues, and allows them a greater say in establishing the goals and objectives that are more relevant to them.
