Fire Prevention Week is coming up next week.
It begins on Sunday, October 8, 2017, and will continue right through until Saturday, October 14.
Peace River Fire Captain Mike Frayne says this year’s theme is “Every Second Counts, Plan Two Ways Out.”
“It’s promoting home fire escape plans,” Frayne told the Trending 55 Newsroom. “So what they’re trying to do is make sure that when you do your plan, you have two ways out of every room, especially the bedrooms. So, it’s just to make sure that if you have one exit blocked, to always make sure you have an alternate route out.”
He says it’s also important to have escape routes if you live in an apartment.
“The apartment complex itself should have an escape plan for the entire building,” he said. “And that should incorporate two ways out. You should also have a minimum of fire drills every 12 months, as demanded by fire code, and a fire safety plan for those buildings is also required.”
As well, the Peace River Fire Department will also hold a pancake breakfast on the 14th at the Peace River Fire Hall located in the Downtown area.
