The Peace River Prospectors saw some action on Saturday.
It was within a touchdown, but the Prospectors were on the wrong end of it, as they fell 19-13 to the Norseman at Grande Prairie’s CKC Field.
Head Coach Mark Owens told the Trending 55 Newsroom that they actually had a really strong game.
“We played against a team that were close to finishing second place this past year in the league,” said Owens. “We played the whole game with them, and the boys played phenomenally. But in the end, (the Norseman) beat us with a couple of big, long, one-play touchdowns. But we were able to move the ball and slow them down.”
He says that the team is peaking at the right time.
“We made a commitment at the beginning of the year that every time we get on the field, that we are a better team,” said Owens. “If we continue with that, than we can really do well. Our goal is to win these last two games, and then get into the playoffs.”
The Prospectors are set to host the Grande Prairie Warriors on Saturday, September 30 at 1 PM.
The High Prairie Outlaws also saw some action last Saturday, but it was one they’d likely want to forget.
The Outlaws fell to the Wembley Bulldogs by a score of 58-8.
In a statement on social media, Head Coach Tom Duchesneau said that despite the loss, the Outlaws can still hold their heads up high.
“We played a very good team (on Saturday),” said Duchesneau. “Even though the score was lopsided, there were many positives that we can take from the game. We didn’t take many penalties, and we were able to add another element to our game with some nice punts.”
The Outlaws play at CKC Field in GP this coming Saturday at 1 PM against the Norseman.
