70% threshold hit to trigger Stage 3 of the Open for Summer Plan

Premier Jason Kenney was smiling as he broke news to Albertans there is only two weeks remaining before the province enters the final stage of its re-opening plan. 70.2% of people in the province have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, the province will move to Stage 3 on July 1. Just under 2.7 million Albertans have received one dose of a vaccine with more than 25 per cent of the eligible population fully vaccinated.

Effective July 1:

  • All remaining restrictions will be lifted, including bans on social gatherings.
  • Isolation and protective measures for confirmed cases of COVID-19 may remain in continuing care settings.
  • Indoor provincial mask mandate will be lifted, masking may be required in limited and specific settings.

Kenney said “This is an important milestone and great achievement, but we will not stop here. We will keep administering first and second doses as quickly as possible so we’re not just open for summer; but open for good”.

Anyone over the age of 18 still has time to enter the first draw of $1 million in the Open for Summer Lottery draw. Registration will close at 11:59 p.m. on June 24, 2021. Proof of vaccination will be needed to claim any prizes from the lottery.

All Albertans 12 and older eligible for second doses

Anyone who received their first dose in May or earlier can now book their second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Those that received a dose in June can book once four weeks have passed since their first shot. Just under 1 million people in the province are now eligible to book their second jab through Alberta Health Services or participating pharmacies. It is still encouraged by the province for people that haven’t got their first dose yet, do so.

Walk in clinics have been set up for people to get their first vaccine of Moderna in Mackenzie County, in these locations:

  • High Level – Native Friendship Centre, 10904 95 St.
  • La Crete – 10601 100 Ave.
  • Fort Vermilion – Community Cultural Complex, 5001 44 Ave.

On June 18, 3.6 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered throughout the province.
