government-of-alberta

Funding from the provincial government will be extending supports for the homeless and people experiencing family violence this winter.

Over 21$ million dollars is being allocated to ensure services at emergency shelters can run 24-7and so isolation facilities alleviate pressure off the health care system.

The $21.5-million funding package will be distributed as follows:

  • $13 million for emergency homeless shelters
  • $6.5 million for isolation facilities
  • $2 million for emergency women’s shelters

Peace River and Grande Prairie are two of ten places in the province with isolation facilities, so those that have COVID-19 not needing to be hospitalized can isolate safely.

Grande Prairie will be getting additional support at it’s emergency homeless shelter as well. Funding in homeless shelters will also support, where possible, 24-7 access to regular meal service, showers, laundry services and connection to addictions and mental health services and housing.
