A senior women’s hockey team has started in the Peace region, the Northern Havoc.
The team will be part of the new Alberta Senior Women’s Hockey League and one of their players, Josee Aitken, says there are some other things they’re looking to have before they begin play.
“Our season won’t start until October 31, our first game will be in High Prairie. Our league has asked us to submit rosters by October 1, so we’re trying to nail down some things there. Player commitment wise, we’re looking for players that are competitive, they want to play high level hockey, they want to work hard and just want to keep playing hockey.”
Aitken says there also looking for coaches and sponsorships and they will be playing their home games at various communities around the region.
She adds that they’re hoping to get enough interested players, so that there can be more teams in the region.
“Currently we have a WhatsApp group chat that we’ve started for anyone interested and we have already over 40 members in the group. That doesn’t mean that everybody has been able to fully commit for the year which is why we’re still working on players that are able to commit, but the fact that there’s 40 people interested means there’s a possibility for it to grow.”
