Harvest is moving ahead across Alberta, but the pace remains well behind average.

As of September 1, 10% of the province’s major crops have been harvested — up six percentage points from the previous week. That’s still behind the five-year average of 23%, and the ten-year average of 17%.

In the Peace Region, just three percent of major crops are in the bin. That’s also behind the five-year average of 13% and the ten-year average of 9%.

Dry peas are leading the way at 12% harvested, followed by spring wheat at 6% and barley at 4%. Oats and canola remain at 0%.

Meanwhile, the Peace Region saw some of the biggest improvements in soil moisture, as warm, dry weather helped reduce excessive moisture.

Pasture conditions are mostly good to fair, with 41% rated good, 38% fair, 13% poor, and 8% excellent.
