Large seizure in Hinton nets two in custody

rcmp-blue-and-red-2-6

Two Alberta residents are facing dozens of charges after a proactive RCMP traffic stop near Hinton led to the seizure of firearms, suspected drugs and other weapons.

RCMP say officers stopped a vehicle on July 26 after developing grounds to investigate suspected criminal activity.

A court-authorized search uncovered two firearms, including one reported stolen from Manitoba, about 106 grams of suspected cocaine, prohibited weapons including a conducted energy weapon, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, body armor and items consistent with drug trafficking.

Thirty-nine-year-old Christopher Allen Ost of Grande Prairie faces 27 charges, while 39-year-old Kalcey Dawn White of Edmonton faces 18 charges.

Both remain in custody and were scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Hinton August 5.

RCMP say the arrests highlight the value of proactive policing in preventing crime before it reaches the community.
