County of Northern Lights addressing snow removal concerns

county-of-northern-lights

Council and Administration with the County of Northern Lights say they have heard residents’ concerns about snowplowing and winter road maintenance following recent ratepayer meetings in Dixonville and Manning.

The County says December 2025 brought nearly 60 inches of snow, with crews working around the clock to keep approximately 2,000 kilometres of roads open. Operators logged more than 2,500 hours, while additional contracted equipment was brought in to help manage heavy snowfall, drifting, and equipment breakdowns.

Officials acknowledge ongoing concerns about road conditions, windrow removal, and cancelled private driveway clearing services, particularly for seniors and residents without access to snow removal equipment. The County says it will review service levels, operational capacity, and public education to improve winter response.

Residents are also reminded that highways, rail crossings, community mailboxes, and private driveways fall under other agencies or property owners. Non-emergency County road concerns can be reported through the County office or its online reporting system.
