Federal Opposition calling for halt to Ag. Research Facilities and Experimental Farms (Arnold Viersen)

qp

Certain aspects of the Agriculture sector are being diminished by the Federal Government, and the opposition is calling for the cuts to not happen.

The Federal Ag. Ministry is calling for the closing of seven Agriculture and agri-food Canada research and development centers, as well as experimental farm sites.

While the cuts do not include the research facility in Beaverlodge, it does call for the closure in Lacombe, which is one of the largest producers in the province.

Shadow Ministers John Barlow, and Jacques Gourde both say that the closures will cause long-term, irreversible damage to Canada’s agricultural research capacity, food security, and food production.

The next steps for the Federal Conservatives is to keep pressuring the Federal Liberals to not jeopardize the future of Agricultural science and research in the country.

This is especially true, during times where food costs are higher, and many Canadians are struggling to maintain an affordable grocery bill.

The Member of Parliament for Peace River-Westlock, is Arnold Viersen.
