  1. With warmer temperatures in store for the weekend and into next week, officials are encouraging residents in Peace River, and along the river, to be prepared, as river break-up approaches.
    Recommendations like moving valuables off ground level floors, out of basements, and preparing an emergency kit with essential items, should be considered.
  2. Residents in Valleyview are bracing for a significant tax increase of about 15%, after council approved their Budget at a recent meeting.
    A key factor in the increase is the big jump in RCMP funding, 42% to be precise.
  3. From the RCMP’s Weekly Wanted file, police in the area are continung to look for Wayne Donald Crowell.
    He’s noted for activities in Grande Prairie and Clairmont, but police do state that activities and presence could possibly extend to the Peace Region.
  4. The town of Peace River has approved their 2026 Budget, that has increases and decreases in it.
    Authorities say increases are coming to Municipal taxes, water and wastewater, while solid waste sees a 9% decrease, largely due to shifts in the recycling programs.
    Major projects on the horizon include paving and overlay, the pool project, town hall renovations, and reconstruction of 101st street, among others.
  5. With the possibility looming of a separatist referendum in Alberta, the NDP has launched its own campaign to take action against that.
    Party leader Naheed Nenshi says “For Alberta, For Canada” is a movement for anyone who wants to fight back against separatism. (Interview in separate story)
  6. Clear Hills County is inviting residents to connect with council and stay informed with what’s happening.
    A public meeting is taking place tonight at the Dave Shaw Memorial Complex in Hines Creek.
  7. An organization representing large public libraries across Canada warns Alberta’s proposed bill affecting libraries threatens “unprecedented” government overreach into organizations meant to be shielded from political control.
    The Canadian Urban Libraries Council is urging the provincial government to ditch its proposed changes to Alberta’s law governing libraries in a bill, currently before the legislature.
  8. The last night of the regular season in the NHL is tonight with 6 games on the schedule.
    The big game is Vancouver in Edmonton, where the Oilers need a point to finish second in a very weak Pacific Division.
    Other games include LA at Calgary, Anaheim in Nashville, Seattle in Colorado, San Jose in Winnipeg, and St. Louis in Utah.
  9. The Toronto Blue Jays play the rubber-match of a three-game set in Milwaukee this afternoon. Patrick Corbin starts for the Jays against Brandon Sproat.
  10. A mix of sun and cloud this afternoon with a slight chance of showers will be seen in the Northwest. Highs are just above zero, with lows tonight being around -7.
    Digits head up on the weekend, and possibly nudge 20 degrees by Tuesday of next week.
