The NWJHL is looking at possibly having an expansion team in Slave Lake.
League officials have had some meetings with interested parties in the community on that topic and have told us that they believe that they have group in place for running the team, although it may not necessarily start play in the upcoming 2026-27 season.
We’ve also spoken with some people with Slave Lake Minor Hockey who say they are still determining whether the venture will be viable for next season, with more meetings happening with the league later in the month.
The NWJHL does have some history in Slave Lake.
The Slave Lake Wolves were one of the founding members of the league back in 1994 and won three league championships before folding in 2014.
The last time the league expanded was in 2022 when La Crete joined the league and Beaverlodge returned after a four year absence.
