- High Prairie RCMP have three suspects in custody after a shelter-in-place order had been issued for Atikameg.
That order has now been lifted, but the investigation is still ongoing. Updates are forthcoming. - Residents in Alberta may be voting in an independence referendum.
178,000 signatures were needed to hold the vote, which asks, “Do you agree that the Province of Alberta should cease to be part of Canada to become an independent state?” - Gerald Capot has been sentenced to a year in jail and a year’s conditional sentence, in relation to the Grouard Church fire in 2023.
He and Kenneth Ferguson were charged after the 121 year-old St. Bernard Catholic Church was heavily damaged by fire that May. - Russell William Pasquan of Peace River, has been sentenced to just less than two years in prison on a multitude of charges, ranging from drugs to firearms to failure to comply.
- Trial dates have been set for a murder case on the Gift Lake Metis Settlement, that happened in August of 2024.
May of 2027 will see proceedings begin for Dakota Auger, who stands accused of second-degree murder, in the death of 41 year-old Bradley Lamouche of Gift Lake. - The Alberta Separation topic has sparked some heated debates in the legislature.
- Council of the MD of Greenview is raising concerns about proposed changes to Canada’s livestock traceability regulations, endorsing a formal letter to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency that highlights challenges facing local producers.
- The Peace Region is being represented at the 2026 Open Alberta 5-pin bowling Championship, starting today in Red Deer.
Bonnie Olson, Dustin Thompson, and Jessica Dubrule, all from Peace River, will compete in the singles and team competitions. - At the Junior B Hockey Provincials in Lloydminster, La Crete plays Sherwood Park this afternoon.

- Sunshine is happening in the Northwest this afternoon, but things will cloud over tonight with snow expected.
Around 5 cm is expected in the Peace and Big Lakes tonight and tomorrow, but the Mackenzie will only get a dusting.
