With spring conditions setting in across northern Alberta, ice anglers are being reminded that all ice fishing shelters must be removed by today (March 31).
According to reports, individuals have been removing shelters on the lake in Joussard at a rapid pace.
The seasonal deadline is in place to ensure public safety and protect the environment as warming temperatures begin to weaken ice surfaces.
Failure to remove shelters in time may result in fines or liability for clean-up costs, according to Alberta Fish and Wildlife.
Authorities are also reminding individuals to use caution when venturing around waterway ice as melting and breakup leads to thinning, unstable, and unsafe conditions.
