  1. Markets in the industry are changing and facilities are doing their best to keep up economically, and feasibility-wise.
    Joe Fawcett is the Director of Mill Operations, and Dan Novak is the Director of Maintenence and Engineering with Mercer Peace River. (Interviews in separate story)
    One project underway at the Mill is the feasibility study for a Carbon Capture Demonstration Project.
  2. The boil water advisory in Eaglesham has finally been lifted. The Advisory was on for almost two weeks due to water main breaks.
  3. Meanwhile, work is underway on a potential break on 101st Ave. And 103rd Street in High Level.
    Officials say the water is on, and no Advisories are happening, or forthcoming.
  4. From the RCMP’s Weekly Wanted file, police in the area are continuing to look for Raymond Travis Sawan.
    His last known whereabouts was in Fort Vermilion, but is noted for activities in Peace River, Grimshaw and Whitecourt.
  5. Farmland Values are increasing, so says a new report by Farm Credit Canada. The Peace Region of Alberta saw prices go up by 6.6%, which is above the national average.
    Despite trade uncertainties and high input costs, demand for farmland in the area is remaining robust.
  6. Peace River Rotaract is wanting the public to chat casually about potential initiatives in Peace River and area…
    A gathering is happening tonight at the Legion for residents, volunteers and business owners to share ideas, spark collaboration and see what’s next for the town.
  7. After coming up short in the finals last season, the Manning Comets manage to win the North Peace Hockey League championship in 2026. (Greg Pasichnuk interview in separate story)
  8. Minor Hockey Provincials are happening again this weekend, as the U-18 B tournament in High Prairie. Eight teams are present, with a champion crowned on Sunday.
  9. Six Canadian teams are in action, as part of a 13-game NHL schedule tonight…
    Edmonton is in Las Vegas, Anaheim is in Calgary, LA’s in Vancouver, Colorado is in Winnipeg, Pittsburgh is in Ottawa, and Columbus is in Montreal.
  10. Today is the last of the chilly days in the Northwest, but at least the sun is shining. Highs this afternoon are still in the minus teens, with lows tonight still in the -20’s.
    Snow could hit the Peace tomorrow, but digits will be rising throughout the weekend, and into next week.
