Provincial money to help municipalities as been a major talking point recently.
Municipal Affairs Minister Dan Williams says he’s been working with many of them to streamline the delivering of services.
“We get the (Local Government Fiscal Framework) but that rises on lowers based on provincial revenues based on royalties. We need a sustainable diversity of income so I’m very happy to see that lots of municipalities are looking at where they can partner, where they can find common ground and where they can take dramatic steps to make sure that they’re viable for their ratepayers, reducing costs and producing even better services.”
Another area of provincial government recently has been on job growth.
While Alberta is ahead of all the other province’s and territories, Williams (who’s also the MLA for Peace River) says there is more that needs to be done.
“Being the fastest skater on a slow team doesn’t really mean a lot. If you look at the canadian economy, we know that it’s still struggling in many ways. We’re going to continue to focus on new jobs in the province. We’re going to continue to focus on economic opportunities. We see investments coming to the province every single day, I want to make sure those investments make their way north to the peace country.”
One area that Williams says can help job growth locally is the possibility of a nuclear power plant being built.
