- Peace Regional Police have 35 year-old Kyle Edward Ominayak of Cadotte Lake in custody on weapons charges and warrants.
Ominayak was taken in on Monday, and will face the judge this coming Monday. - From the RCMP’s Weekly Wanted file, police in the area are searching for Raymond Travis Sawan.
His last known whereabouts was Fort Vermilion, but is noted for activities in Peace River, Whitecourt and Grimshaw. - Pleas are expected to entered this morning in court on the In The Woods Animal Rescue case.
Sheryl Woods and Cheryl Bastien were arrested last October by Valleyview RCMP after over 300 animals were found in distress at the facilities in Marie Reine and the MD of Smoky River. - The Fair Electricity Distribution Alliance is raising awareness about the unfair electricity distribution rates experienced by many Albertans, and that includes many jusdictions in the Peace Region.
FEDA says residents, businesses, and municipalities in northern Alberta pay significantly higher electricity distribution costs than the rest of the province. - Gas prices are continuing to increase with some stations in the Peace region getting over $1.50 per litre.
The increase comes as oil markets tighten, much of that pressure is tied to ongoing instability in the Middle East that’s affecting shipping routes. - Alberta Premier Danielle Smith’s government took steps Wednesday to drastically restrict who’s eligible for medical assistance in dying.
The government introduced a bill that, if passed, would limit medical assistance in dying, better known as MAID, to those likely to die of natural causes within a year.
Those under 18 would still be prohibited regardless of condition, in line with current federal rules. - NPHL playoffs tonight… Manning is in Dawson Creek, with the Comets leading 2-0.

- A mix of sun and cloud is forecasted for the Northwest this afternoon.
Highs are still at, or just below normal for this time of the year, at positive numbers in the Peace and Big Lakes, and negative numbers in the Mackenzie.
Snow comes back in the South tomorrow, while the north has some more sunshine, heading into the weekend.
