Farmers Face Fertilizer Price Spike

cows
Farmers are facing another potential cost increase as the growing season approaches. Fertilizer prices have recently surged following disruptions tied to the war in Iran. Shipping through the Strait of Hormuz — a key global trade route off southern Iran — has stalled due to threats from Iran’s military toward Western vessels.
Roughly a third of the world’s fertilizer shipments move through the passage, making it a critical link in the global supply chain. With traffic halted, market uncertainty has pushed fertilizer prices sharply higher.
According to reports, fertilizer prices have climbed about 30% in the past week, adding new pressure for farmers already dealing with rising input costs over the last several years.
While most farmers have already secured their fertilizer for this growing season, there are concerns about future supply and price levels if disruptions continue. The situation is being closely watched across the agriculture sector, where input costs play a major role in overall farm profitability.
