Energy Alberta update, post-secondary transition planning and preparations for major events were among the key topics discussed at the February 17 Fairview Council meeting.
Representatives from Energy Alberta presented plans for the proposed Peace River Nuclear Power Project. The project is currently in the consultation phase. If approved, the first reactor could be operational by 2035, with four reactors planned in total and the fourth unit projected to come online by 2043.
Council also received an update on the Community Priority Plan from Sgt. Dave Illi, with additional public engagement expected in the coming months.
Meanwhile, the Fairview Regional College Transition Committee is still awaiting a response from the Minister of Advanced Education regarding its proposal for the future of the Fairview Campus. The Committee anticipates upcoming legal and business planning expenses and is seeking tax-deductible donations through the Town of Fairview office. It was noted that the uncertainly of the Fairview College campus has resulted in a priority demotion from the Peace River School Division on its Fairview High School replacement/upgrade project.  Further highlighting the impact of this campus.
On the events side, the NorthernLink Agriculture, Home & Sport Show is upcoming.  The biennial trade show is slated for March 27–28 at the Fairview Arena. Looking ahead, the Town will mark its 100-year anniversary in 2028, with the Recreation Advisory Committee beginning early planning efforts.
Lastly, Council approved to receive proposals for repurposing the former RCMP Museum building.
