Winter Weather Makes Forceful Return

Winter has made a forceful return to the region.

A Special Weather Statement issued by Environment Canada over the weekend warns that snow and blowing snow will continue across the majority of province today.

Snowfall totals ranging from 10 to 30 centimetres are expected in some areas. Big Lakes County, Valleyview and Grande Prairie are currently under a snowfall warning.

While snowfall is forecast to taper off later today, travel conditions are expected to remain difficult. Strong winds combined with falling and drifting snow will reduce visibility, particularly across central Alberta where the heaviest accumulation is occurring.

The cold will deepen as the week progresses. Overnight lows are expected to approach or dip to –30°C across the Peace and Mackenzie regions, with little relief in sight through the remainder of February.
