Residents of the Peace Region should be aware that six CH-146 Griff helicopters from the Royal Canadian Air Force’s 408 Tactical Helicopter Squadron will be flying overhead from January 26 to 28, 2026.
These aircraft are en route from Edmonton to Fort Wainwright, Alaska, to participate in Exercise STRIKING BAT, a multinational training operation designed to prepare military forces for Arctic and sub-Arctic environments.
The exercise, running from January 28 to February 28, 2026, will involve Canadian forces working alongside U.S. Army aviation units and international partners from Norway, Italy, and Mongolia.
The helicopters will maintain altitudes no lower than 500 feet above the highest obstacle along their route.
While flight activities may generate unfamiliar noise, the RCAF assures that all operations are meticulously planned and closely monitored to ensure public safety, with schedules subject to weather and flying conditions.
