With December snowfall arriving in a big way, the Town of Peace River’s Snow Angels Program is in full force to kick off the winter season, helping residents stay safe and mobile throughout the winter months.
The Snow Angels Program is a community-based initiative facilitated by Community Services that connects volunteers with seniors and residents who have physical disabilities or limited mobility and may be unable to clear snow from their property. The goal is simple: keep walkways safe, ice-free, and accessible by encouraging neighbours to help neighbours.
Heavy snowfall can make winter especially challenging for older adults and residents with mobility issues. A Snow Angel can make a meaningful difference by lending a shovel and a bit of time—whether the need is ongoing or temporary due to injury or illness.
As snow continues to accumulate, volunteers are encouraged to watch for Snow Angels signs displayed on properties throughout the community. These signs indicate that a resident needs assistance with snow removal. Community members who are able can lend a shovel and help clear sidewalks for neighbours in need.
Residents requiring assistance can contact Peace River Community Services at (780) 624-1000, extension 1030, to request a Snow Angels sign. Community Services will deliver and set up the sign at the resident’s property. Participants will also be asked to complete an application form to enroll in the program, and some terms and conditions may apply.
Community Services reminds participants that visibility is important. Residents who have a Snow Angels sign are asked to ensure it is clearly visible so volunteer shovellers can easily identify where help is needed.
The Town of Peace River encourages residents to support the Snow Angels Program by looking out for neighbours this winter and helping to keep sidewalks safe for everyone.
