As the holiday season approaches, the Alberta RCMP is alerting residents to a rise in mail theft incidents across the province. With the increase in online shopping and parcel deliveries, opportunistic thieves are targeting unattended packages.
To safeguard your deliveries, the RCMP recommends:
– ing for “signature required” deliveries or providing instructions to leave items out of sight.
– Tracking shipments to know when to them, allowing you or a trusted neighbor to retrieve them promptly.
– Scheduling deliveries for times when you’re home or having packages sent to secure pickup locations.
– Installing doorbell cameras and motion sensor lights as deterrents.
For those traveling during the holidays, ensure mail doesn’t accumulate, ask a neighbor to collect it, and secure all entry points to your home.
The Alberta RCMP urges the public to report any suspicious activity to local police.
