Save Fairview Campus Second Town Hall Taking Place Today

save-nwp

A second Save the Fairview Campus town hall is being held today, December 4, as the community-led movement to save the Fairview campus reaches a critical stage. Local leaders, residents, businesses, and students are inviting the public to join the discussion and help shape the future of the long-standing institution.

For nearly 75 years, the Fairview campus has played a key role in workforce development across the Peace Country, offering programs in trades, agriculture, health care, veterinary sciences, and technical fields. Community members warn that its potential closure would leave major gaps in training, economic stability, and regional resilience.

Over the past month, representatives from the community have held meetings, gathered feedback, connected with municipal partners, conducted a petition campaign, and sought clarity from the provincial government. Residents continue to voice strong support for maintaining accessible education and protecting programs vital to the regional economy.

The second town hall runs from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. this evening at the Dunvegan Motor Inn in Fairview. Organizers will provide updates on the past month of advocacy efforts, address myths and facts about the campus situation, and outline possible next steps, including future pathways for a sustainable, community-driven model.

Invitations have been extended to the Premier of Alberta and several provincial ministers responsible for Advanced Education, Municipal Affairs, Agriculture, Forestry and Parks, Jobs and the Economy, and Trade and Immigration.

The coalition is calling on the Government of Alberta to pause all closure-related actions until a full community-led feasibility study can be completed, work with regional partners to explore governance options for a community-owned or community-managed college or polytechnic, and update residents on what actions have been taken—and are being taken—to keep the Fairview campus open.

Members of the public, students, staff, business owners, and all interested stakeholders are encouraged to attend and to continue sharing the campaign.
