The Town of Fairview has issued a public update on the status of the Fairview College campus after Mayor Gord MacLeod received a letter from Alberta’s Minister of Advanced Education. While the letter cannot be released due to its classification, the Town says it outlines several key points regarding the campus’s future.
According to the Town, the Minister acknowledged the concerns raised by Fairview residents and recognized the campus’s long-standing role in supporting the community, local industries, and the broader region of northern Alberta.
The Minister’s update included several assurances:
• All current programs at the Fairview Campus will continue until at least August 1, 2026, allowing students to complete their current academic year.
• All campus assets will remain in Fairview during this period.
• The Ministry of Advanced Education will undertake a full financial analysis of the Fairview Campus to guide future decisions.
• Three post-secondary institutions have been asked to explore potential opportunities and are required to engage directly with local leadership as part of that process.
In its statement, the Town of Fairview said the update shows that ongoing local advocacy “is making an impact,” but noted that major questions about the campus’s long-term future remain unanswered. “We will continue pushing for clarity, commitments, and a transparent plan that truly supports our entire region. Your voice continues to make a difference,” the Town said.
Area residents are reminded that the Save Fairview Campus petition remains available at various locations throughout Fairview and the Peace Country. A list of signing locations can be found on the Save Fairview Campus Facebook page.
“We’ve been heard, but we still need clear answers and strong action,” the Town’s statement concluded.
