Food banks across the region are bracing for what’s expected to be one of their busiest holiday seasons in recent years, as demand for support continues to climb sharply.
Many organizations are already preparing to take orders for Christmas hampers, which provide families in need with food and holiday essentials. Officials say the number of patrons seeking assistance has increased tremendously compared to previous years, putting additional strain on local resources.
To help meet that growing demand, community groups and emergency services are stepping up fundraising and food drive efforts. One such initiative — the Stuff the Cruiser fundraiser — was held yesterday at the Peace Country Co-op in Grimshaw.
The event was organized by Grimshaw Community Services, in partnership with Peace Country Co-op (Grimshaw), the Peace Regional RCMP Detachment, the Alberta Sheriffs, and the Grimshaw Fire Department. All proceeds and food donations from the event will go toward supporting the Berwyn/Grimshaw Ecumenical Care Society Food Bank.
With more drives planned in the coming weeks, officials are encouraging residents to give what they can — whether through food donations, monetary contributions, or volunteering their time — to ensure every family has a meal on the table this holiday season.
