On October 14, the United States an additional 10% tariff on Canadian softwood lumber and 25% tariff on wood products, raising total duties on softwood lumber to over 45%.
Peace River-Westlock MP Arnold Viersen says this escalation is expected to significantly impact Alberta’s forestry sector, affecting companies such as Tolko, Millar Western Forest Products, and La Crete Sawmills.
Industry leaders warn that these tariffs will drive up costs for American consumers and threaten jobs on both sides of the border.
