The Alberta Prosperity Project is discussing the topic of soverignty with some town hall events in northwestern Alberta this week.
The CEO of the project, Mitch Sylvestre, says they’ll be talking about the “benefits” of Alberta Independence.
“Based on what’s going on with the federal government, I think we have reason to be concerned that our democracy is actually at stake here. The other thing that’s happening right now from their level, they’re actually chasing us down for our firearms. The other concerns is the direct attack on our industries and our way of life.”
Sylvestre says that one of their talking points will be on Alberta’s economy.
“We’re immediately going to lose our $14 billion a year transfer to Quebec. We’re immediately going to gain as well $3 billion from our CPP that we overpay. There’s going to be a $20 billion asset there right off the bat without trying very hard. There will be money there to do other things.”
Sylvestre says a lot of the feedback they’re received from other events across the province has show strong support for independence.
Those town halls will be in La Crete on Wednesday, High Level on Thursday and Manning on Friday.
