Alberta’s 51,000 teachers have commenced a province-wide strike today, impacting over 700000 students across 2,500 schools.
The Alberta Teachers’ Association overwhelmingly rejected the government’s latest offer, which included a 12% wage increase over four years and the hiring of 3,000 additional teachers.
Union President Jason Schilling argues that at least 5,000 new instructors are needed to address classroom complexities.
