On September 17, 2025, Peace Regional RCMP officers were conducting proactive patrols in downtown Peace River when they identified 39-year-old resident Jeremy Lori Mitchell, who was wanted on multiple warrants, including mischief under $5,000, failure to comply with conditions, identity fraud, careless driving, driving while unauthorized, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and resisting a police officer.
Upon approach, Mitchell fled on foot toward the river, leading officers on a chase through downtown and into the wooded riverbanks.
In a final attempt to evade capture, he entered the river and became stranded against a pillar of the old bridge atop a drift pile.
With assistance from the Peace River Fire Department, RCMP members reached Mitchell by boat and persuaded him to surrender.
He was transported back to shore and subsequently remanded into custody, with a court date set for September 22 at the Alberta Court of Justice in Peace River.
The Peace Regional RCMP extend their gratitude to the Peace River Fire Department for their prompt assistance and encourage the public to report any suspicious activity or information related to this incident.
