- The Alberta Teacher’s Association are back at the bargaining table with the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association.
However, the ATA has given a deadline of Monday October 6th for the start of Strike action. - Peace Regional RCMP have a man in custody on outstanding warrants.
An individual was found sleeping in an alleyway, identified as 30 year-old Olen Rayne Letendre of Loon Lake, who had warrants in Peace River and Red Earth Creek. - High Prairie RCMP have concluded their heavy presence in Driftpile.
Police were in the area of Highway 2 and Driftpile Beach Road and were looking for the suspects, initially reported as two men and a woman. - The 2025 Northern HEAT Fire Training Conference and Trade Fair in on in Peace River. (Tim Harris interview in separate story)
- The 8th annual Greenview Clay Shoot, held last Thursday in Valleyview, raised $70,000 for the five food banks serving the residents of the MD.
- The world marked the 24th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks with ceremonies in New York, at the Pentagon and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
The commemorations were punctuated by moments of silence, the tolling of bells and the reading of the names of the nearly 3,000 killed. - Polly Holliday, who turned the catchphrase “Kiss my grits!” into a national retort as the gum-chewing, beehive-wearing waitress in the CBS sitcom “Alice,” has died at 88.
- The High School football season in the Peace Region begins this afternoon. Peace River plays in High Prairie, with the kickoff at 4:30 at EW Pratt School.
- The Mighty Peace Basketball League has announced the first-ever Fall Classic Men’s Basketball tournament.
It takes place October 25 and 26 at Glenmary School in Peace River. - The Toronto Blue Jays play the rubber match this afternoon against Houston at Rogers Center. Kevin Gausman starts for the Jays against Christian Javier.
The Jays are three games up on Boston and the Yankees for first in the AL East. - Sunny and warm for the next couple of days in the Northwest. Highs this afternoon are in the mid to upper 20’s. Lows tonight will be at, or just below 10 degrees.
Things might cool off a little by next week.
