Province invests in NWP

The Alberta government is investing $1 million through Budget 2025 to the planning phase of expanding skilled trades and apprenticeship education at Northwestern Polytechnic (NWP) in Grande Prairie.

This funding aims to increase apprenticeship training opportunities in northern Alberta, addressing the region’s growing demand for skilled trades workers.

The proposed expansion includes a new skilled trades training centre featuring six industry-focused training shops in areas such as welding, refrigeration, and construction.

This initiative is part of a broader $234 million investment over three years to enhance skilled trades and apprenticeship training across the province.

NWP President and CEO Vanessa Sheane emphasized the importance of this investment, stating that the expansion will help address persistent talent shortages and support the region’s economic growth.

By investing in modern infrastructure and expanding access to apprenticeship training, Alberta’s government aims to provide students with the education and support needed to meet the workforce demands of tomorrow.
