The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC) has suspended the 180-day time limit for the Planning Phase of the Peace River Nuclear Power Project, proposed by Energy Alberta, under the Impact Assessment Act.
This suspension follows a formal request from Energy Alberta, who asked for a pause of three to six months to allow for additional engagement with Indigenous Nations and communities.
The purpose of this extended engagement period is to ensure more meaningful participation in the assessment process and to enhance community awareness and education regarding the nuclear energy sector.
Once the Energy Alberta submits a written update outlining the progress of these engagement efforts, along with a request to resume the timeline, IAAC will issue a public notice confirming the completion of the prescribed activity and the resumption of the 180-day timeline.
Public comments are welcome and will continue to be accepted on the project’s registry page throughout the suspension period.
