  1. Today is the potential end-date of what the next step is in the dispute between the Alberta Teacher’s Association, and the Teacher’s Employer Bargaining Association.
    Teachers have until October 7th to initiate a strike, but the Bargaining Association could vote to lock out teachers today.
  2. The Alberta Government is also wanting feedback on the Nuclear Energy debate in the Province.
    A Public Engagement survey has been published to explore the potential of Nuclear Energy.
    Meanwhile, The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada has suspended the 180-day time limit for the planning phase of the Peace River Project.
  3. Roads in and around Northwestern Alberta are expected to be busy, as the long weekend approaches.
    Authorities are reminding motorists to be mindful of the rules of the roads, as extra presence will be in view.
  4. The last long weekend of the summer is happening, with plenty of events on the agenda for the 120th Alberta Day celebrations.
    At 11:30 today at the Train Station in Peace River, tours, lawn games, crafts, ad food is on the agenda.
    At 4:00 this afternoon at the museum in Spirit River, a free BBQ, live music, crafts, tours, storytelling, and a kids zone are present.
    3:00 on Monday afternoon at Lac Cardinal, many events are occuring. More details are on the Community Calendar.
  5. Julien Bergeron, the Deputy Fire Chief of Northern Sunrise County, took part in the Northern Trek, which was a run from Edson to Jasper.
    2025 was a record year, as over $27,000 was raised, with more money coming in.
  6. Main training camp starts today for the North Peace Navigators of the NWJHL.
    The Navs are looking to gain momentum after a below-500 campaign in 2025, where they won 15 of their 40 games.
  7. CFL this weekend… Winnipeg is in Saskatchewan on Sunday. Toronto is in Hamilton and Edmonton is in Calgary on Monday.
  8. The Toronto Blue Jays start a weekend set with Milwaukee at Roger’s Center tonight. Shane Bieber starts for the Jays against Freddy Peralta.
  9. Heat Warnings are continuing to be in place for the Northwest for the rest of this week.
    Highs during the day are in the low 30’s, but lows at night are comfortable in the low teens. Digits start cooling down by Sunday, but might warm up again by mid-week.
