  1. The Good news is that the major blazes near Manning, Chateh, and Red Earth Creek are having firefighters gaining the edge on the battle.
    The Bad news is that thanks to the heat and dry conditions in the Northwest, wildfire dangers are high to extreme in the Forest Areas.
  2. The Heatwave in the Northwest is continuing for the rest of this week, and that has authorities asking residents to be cautious.
    Easy tips like not leaving children and pets unattended in the vehicle, where heatstroke can come on in minutes. The easy solution is to stay hydrated.
  3. RCMP in Wetaskiwin have a man in custody on a lengthy list of charges in multiple areas.
    41 year-old Scott Dolbec was arrested in Edmonton on 33 charges out of Edmonton, Redwater, Fort Saskatchewan, Leduc and Swan Hills in Big Lakes County.
    Dolbec was also wanted for unlawful escape in Saskatoon.
  4. The Battle River Ag. Society is continuing to celebrate a successfull show, the accompanying fundraiser is the icing on the cake.
    The Kick-off BBQ at the Manning rodeo started things, and raised $3,500 for the Haying in the 30’s charity.
  5. The Grande Prairie Storm of the Alberta Junior Hockey League has signed a couple of La Crete Lumber Barons from last season, for this season.
    Center Cole Penner and defenceman Rydley Gerbrandt are making the jump to Junior A.
    Penner had 35 goals and 110 points in the regular season and playoffs last year, while Gerbrandt had 50 points last year.
  6. The Toronto Blue Jays play the rubber match of their three-game set tonight against Minnisota at Rogers Center.
    Eric Lauer starts for the Jays against Simeon Woods-Richardson.
  7. The late summer heat wave continues in the Northwest for the remainder of this week. Highs are in the 30’s during the day.
    Lows at night are still comfortable in the low teens. Digits start cooling down a little by Sunday.
