On August 15, 2025, following a weapons complaint, the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit, with assistance Faust RCMP and the Lakeshore Regional Police Service, launched an investigation into the death of 29-year-old Driftpile First Nation resident Brandon Lee Campiou.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton determined Campiou’s death to be a homicide.
As a result of the investigation, 32-year-old Edmonton resident Blake Francis Giroux was arrested and charged with manslaughter.
Giroux was remanded into custody after appearing before a justice of the peace and is scheduled to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in High Prairie on August 25, 2025.
