The Royal Tyrrell Museum in Drumheller is celebrating its 40 anniversary with a series of special events and exhibits.
The new “Breakthroughs” exhibit showcases five extraordinary Alberta fossils that have significantly advanced our understanding of ancient life.
These specimens are notable for being the best-preserved, most complete, first of their kind, or the only known examples.
In addition, starting this September, the museum is launching pop-up exhibits at libraries across Alberta, including locations in Medicine Hat, Lethbridge, Calgary, Red Deer, Edmonton, Lloydminster, Hinton, Grande Prairie, Fort McMurray, and High Level.
These exhibits offer communities a unique opportunity to engage with the wonders of paleontology.
To cap off the celebrations, the museum is hosting the “Back in Time Silent Disco” on October 18.
This 1980s-themed event invites guests to dance among the fossils, enjoying retro tunes through headphones in a silent disco experience like no other.
Since opening in 1985, the Royal Tyrrell Museum has welcomed over 16 million visitors and continues to be a world-class destination for paleontological research and education.
