  1. Crews have gained a bit of the upper-hand in the wildfire near Slave Lake.
    Authorities have lifted the 8-hour Evacuation Notice for the town and surrounding area, as reports indicate the fire is not expected to grow any further.
  2. The Holy Family Catholic Regional Division has a new Deputy Superintendent. Lauri Gouldreault brings over 30 years of experience in teaching and school administration.
  3. Rachel Greidanus, Aubrey LePage and Kambriea Burns of the Peace Region Dance Society, each placed in the top 11 in the world for their solo and team dance routines, at the Dance World Cup Finals in Spain, earlier this month.
    This included a Bronze medal in the Team Showstopper catergory, won by LePage and Burns.
  4. Over $13 million dollars was raised during Camp Day last Wednesday, thus raising the overall total to over $275 million.
    The proceeds from coffee, merchandise and doughnut sales went to the cause from the restaurants in Peace River, High Level, Fairview, Valleyview and High Prairie.
  5. Roads in and around Downtown Peace River are a mess right now, as construction season continues.
    Add to that, the midway is in town, and that has closed 99th Street, between 100th and 101st Ave. The midway is expected to be in town until Sunday night.
  6. Many farmers in Northern Alberta are feeling the effects of drought conditions this season.
    With an agriculture disaster being declared in the MD of Greenview, NDP Agriculture Critic Heather Sweet says a water strategy is needed for the North. (Interview in separate story)
  7. The Toronto Blue Jays play the rubber match of their three-game set with the Yankees tonight. Chris Bassitt starts for the Jays against Max Fried.
  8. A decision is expected to come down tomorrow in a sexual assault case involved several former players on Canada’s World Junior Hockey Team.
    This comes from an incident in a hotel room in London, ON in 2018.
  9. A chance of showers with cooler temperatures are forecasted for the Peace and Big Lakes this afternoon.
    The Mackenzie is dealing with a mix of sun and cloud, with summer-like digits. Highs are around 20, except for 25 in the Mackenzie. Lows tonight are around 10 degrees.
    The Mackenzie will cool off and get wet tomorrow.
