  1. RCMP in Alberta have issued a province-wide alert for the potential of a new lethal drug on the streets. The opiate in question resembles the prescription medication “Xanax”, commonly used for anti-anxiety.
    However, the replica pills have tested positive for deadly quantities of a potent opioid, that Xanax does not contain.
  2. The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is investigating after the death of a man in a police involved shooting near Grande Prairie.
    RCMP say an erratic driver was observed late Friday night and despite efforts to stop the vehicle, it fled for a short time before getting stuck in the mud.
    When talking with the driver, he allegedly produced a firearm, and Police say during the confrontation, at least one of the officers fired, and subsequently struck the suspect.
  3. Northern Alberta is still quite dry, and has higher ratings for fire danger.
    The town and MD of Fairview both have Fire Bans in effect, but there is still a chance for more showers, as the week rolls along.
  4. 28% of the major crops in the Peace are in good to excellent condition, but that is still over 30 percentage points below the 5 and 10 year averages.
    Soil Moisture is also well below averages, as 31% is rated as in good to excellent condition.
  5. Alberta’s rainy-day Heritage Fund is getting an extra $2.8 billion, hitting a record high of $30 billion, which is almost double what it was five years ago.
    Premier Danielle Smith wants it to hit $250 billion by 2050, so future governments can spend investment returns without draining the fund.
  6. Canadians are drinking less than they used to, but no other province has seen a greater reduction than Alberta.
    Newfoundland last year led the country at 8.3 litres per person, while Alberta rang in at 7.6 litres per person.
    However, Albertans led the country in legal cannabis consumption by a substantial margin last year, with an average of $248 spent per person of legal age to buy it.

  8. The Toronto Blue Jays start a crucial week of games tonight at home to the Yankees, who are three games behind Toronto for first in the AL East.

  9. The sun will be making an appearance this afternoon in the Northwest, especially after some shower activity in the Peace and Big Lakes this morning.
    Highs are in the teens to near 20 degrees, with lows tonight possibly being a little chilly, at around 5. The sunshine will be sticking around for at least the next couple of days.
