Provincial Funding to protect against floods and drought

alberta-government-5

Alberta is boosting its fight against floods and droughts with a $7 million investment to improve water quality and protect communities. Half of that—$3.5 million—will support 20 new projects aimed at restoring watersheds across the province.

Healthy watersheds are crucial—they store water during dry periods and reduce flooding during storms. The funding will benefit one city, two counties, and 17 non-profits working on riverbank restoration, streambank stabilization, and sustainable water management.

Projects range from educating students in Medicine Hat on bioengineering to helping Lethbridge homeowners conserve water during droughts.

Applications for another $3.5 million in grants are now open, with a deadline of September 15, 2025.
