- Police in Faust have a man in custody on murder charges.
As a result, 42 year-old Anthony Knott of Edmonton is charged with 2nd degree murder in the death of 34 year-old Randy Courteoreille of the Swan River First Nation. - The Transportation Safety Board continues their investigation into a chopper accident, north of Manning.
The helicopter, assigned to help battle the Slim’s Creek Wildfire, had it happen while landing at a fire base, associated with the blaze.
The pilot, and sole occupant, was treated for injuries in hospital. - An Agriculture Disaster has been declared by the MD of Greenview, for it’s livestock industry.
The extreme dry conditions, little to no runoff, and heavy grasshopper infestations are to blame for the declaration. - Despite recent rains, Crop conditions are still well below average in the Peace Region.
24% of the major crops are in good to excellent condition, that’s 35 percentage points below normal.
At the same time, sub-surface moisture levels are at 32%, which is nearly 25 percentage points below average. - Wheatbelt Baseball League gets into the semi-finals this week. Peace River plays Grimshaw, starting on Wednesday in Peace River.
Grande Prairie will play Rycroft, also starting this week. The semi-finals are a best-of-five. - The Major Leagues of Baseball is into the Al-Star Break in Atlanta. Tonight is the Home Run Derby, tomorrow is the game itself.
The Toronto Blue Jays have two reps at the game in Alejandro Kirk, and Vladimir Guerrero Junior. - The NHL schedule for the 2026 season comes out this week. The 82-game schedule comes out on Wednesday, with Opening night being Tuesday October 7th.
