A helicopter contracted by Alberta Wildfire was involved in an accident on the evening of July 10th while landing at a fire base near the Slims Creek wildfire, north of Manning. The pilot—who was the only person on board—was transported to hospital. Alberta Wildfire says they are keeping her in their thoughts and wishing her a full recovery.
This incident highlights the ongoing risks wildfire crews and contractors face in the field. Mental health professionals will be on site to support impacted staff.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada will investigate the cause of the crash. Alberta Wildfire will also conduct an internal review and make any necessary changes to enhance safety for all personnel.
