  1. Water services have been disrupted in Valleyview. A Water main break has occured on 53 Ave. between 48th and 50th street.
    Water has been shut off until the break has been repaired.
  2. One person from Gift Lake is in custody from a homicide investigation.
    Police discovered the man was dead having injuries consistent with a gun-shot wound, identified as 41-year-old Bradley Lamouche of Gift Lake.
    27 year old Dakota Auger of Gift Lake, is facing charges for second-degree-murder.
  3. AHS has issued an advisory for some parts of Sturgeon Lake in the MD of Greenview after identifying blue-green algae in the waters.
    As a result, residents are advised to avoid all contact with algae blooms, avoid swimming or allowing pets to swim in areas where algae is visible.
  4. The town of High Level is being recognized by their colleagues in the NWT.
    Deputy Mayor Jim Dives of Enterprise in the Territories stopped by town hall in High Level to present Mayor Crystal McAteer with gifts on behalf of the community.
  5. Northern Sunrise County is reviewing the boundaries of Wards 5 and 6. A proposed bylaw is being introduced to combine the two wards into one.
    An open house is slated for Wednesday September 4th at McKinney Hall.
    Details are also being worked on for residents of Cadotte Lake and Little Buffalo by the County to the Lubicon Lake Band for a possible additional open house.
  6. Traffic at Canada’s two largest railways is slated to resume today as a rail work stoppage comes to an end following a Saturday decision from the federal labour board.
    CN Rail and CPKC shut down railways last Thursday, locking out workers and disrupting freight traffic nationwide.
  7. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is urging businesses to hire Canadians as his government announces new restrictions to limit low-wage temporary foreign workers.
    Ottawa is also considering whether to reduce its immigration targets for permanent residents.
  8. Renovations to the Fairview Curling Club is proceeding faster than expected. President Clint Wild is saying the repair to the roof is finishing up and inside work remains.
    Construction is expected to be complete at the end of this month, with inside cleaning and ice install to be next. The Curling season starts at the end of October.
  9. Training camps are underway in the NWJHL. The North Peace Navigators had theirs this past weekend, whil the Fairview Flyers and the La Crete Lumber Barons have their camps next week.
    The regular season starts September 20th, with the schedule on the App.
  10. The Toronto Blue Jays play 5 in Boston starting this afternoon. The first game is a continuation of a suspended game.
    Today’s game starts at the top of the second inning with Danny Jansen for the Blue Jays is at the plate. The footnote is between the game and now, Jansen was traded to the Red Sox. So he becomes the first player in MLB history to play for both teams in the same game. The second game is later on tonight.
  11. The chance of showers in the Northwest ends this afternoon, when the sunshine appears. Highs today are in the low to mid 20’s, with lows tonight in the low teens.
    The chance of showers does comeback for tomorrow and possibly Wednesday.
