The Town of Peace River handed out the Volunteer Awards on Friday, December 1, 2017 at the Chateau Nova.
The event was emceed by Jonathan Pittman, a Junior High Science Teacher at Glenmary School. Town Council member Johanna Downing then welcomed everyone to the awards ceremony itself, and this was followed by an explanation from Laurie Stavne, the FCSS’s Community Programs Coordinator, on what the awards were about, including the variety of groups gathered, as well as the volunteers.
Afterward, Jim Tallman, a member of the Peace River Community Services Advisory Board, discussed how the committee made their selections on who won.
As well, $500 was donated to a cause of the winner’s choosing.
Taking home the big award this year was Nicole Soucy, who was named as the 2017 Volunteer of the Year. Her cause of choice was the PurpleRung Foundation.
Winning the award for Emerging Leader was Shealynn Berreth, who decided to hand her $500 over to Peace Regional Victims Services.
And finally, the 2017 Lifelong Achievement Award went to Ivan Schell. His chosen group was the Peace Region Dance Society.
