Peace River M.L.A. Dan Williams is proposing amendments to Bill 207. The changes come after the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (C.P.S.A.) wrote Williams. The private member’s bill, introduced by Williams in the legislature less than two weeks ago, states that medical professionals can decline to perform procedures that go against their beliefs and not have to give a referral either.  In a news release, the C.PS.A. says the suggested amendments to the Conscience Rights Protection Act are in greater alignment with its Standard of Practice.

“I am committed to ensuring this bill continues care for Albertans and maintains access to legal health care services. I am always open to further comments from professionals, colleges, and everyday Albertans,” says Williams. “I have heard Albertans loud and clear – yes we want to protect freedom of conscience but also continue to ensure access to health care services. These substantial amendments are a result of collaboration to that end.”
